Title and Summary

Senior Accountant

The Japan Finance team plays a key role as business partners by providing the business with thought leadership and financial advice on business priorities to enable financially sound, effective and efficient investment decisions

The Sr. Analyst will report to the Regional Controller by working closely with the Japan Division Finance Officer

He/she will assume responsibility for the financial stewardship of the Business Unit and actively maintaining a strong internal control environment to support operational excellence

Role:

• Manage the P&L for Mastercard Prepaid Management Services (MPMS) with MPMS Business Manager.

• Ensure accounting is in compliance with U.S. GAAP, J-GAAP, MasterCard Worldwide policies & procedures, and implements new accounting pronouncements in a timely manner.

• Responsible for tax filing

• Responsible for statutory/regulatory reporting

• Reviews accounting information for accuracy and reliability.

• Prepares period-by-period analyses and explains significant account variances, when comparing actuals, budgets, and forecasts.

• Performs detailed account analyses

• Works closely with multiple stakeholders including regional controller, regional tax, GBSC-Shared Accounting service, on complex accounting matters

• Manage Accounts Payable, Cash Management, GL, and Fixed Assets

Operations & Systems

• Conducts continuous reviews of existing accounting processes and assess operational efficiency and to ensure that processes meet the present and anticipated needs of business units, Worldwide Finance, and other stakeholders.

• Participates in the development and implementation of process improvements to the accounting function to improve operational efficiency and quality of output.

• Escalates any identified financial system risks and system requirements as appropriate.

• Ensures delays and problems are promptly addressed by taking the appropriate action to resolve issues.

Control & Security

• Participates in the development, implementation and maintenance of cost-effective controls to promote data integrity and minimize risk (financial, operational, legal, regulatory, etc.) and maintains appropriate segregation of duties.

• Ensures access to data, information and systems is appropriately authorized in accordance with MasterCard policies and procedures.

• Participates in internal audits and responds to requests timely and appropriately.

All About You:

• Experienced professional in the field of accounting, tax and controllership

• Good understanding of the diverse cultural, regulatory, statutory and taxation environment of the markets in which the Business Unit has a physical presence

• Expertise in U.S. and J-GAAP accounting

• Excellent communication, negotiation, and influencing skills

• Fluency in Japanese and English a must

• MBA or a CPA equivalent qualification preferred
