Title and Summary
Manager, Software Engineering
The Mastercard team is looking for a high-energy, detail-oriented engineering Lead to help advance the Connect experience for both our customers and our internal users.
This is an exciting opportunity in a fast-paced, rewarding environment.
Role:
People Manager/project manager responsibilities
• Formally supervises and coaches' multiple software engineering teams of multiple roles and is responsible for planning and business execution of goals and objectives.
• Provides strategic leadership related to specific applications and systems, or software-development methodologies.
• Ensure that staff has skills and behaviors to perform tasks fully through effective communication of goals, objectives, performance and as necessary improvement plans.
• Ensure development, review and implementation of policy changes based on approved recommendations with minimal customer or staff interruption.
• Review and approve the development or revision of operational processes and procedures.
• Recommend annual cost center budget and ensure appropriate expenditures within that approved budget.
• Recommend strategic direction and policy changes.
Scrum master responsibilities
• Guiding the team and organization on how to use SAFe Agile practices and values to delight customers.
• Removing impediments or guiding the team to remove impediments by finding the right personnel to remove the impediment.
• Building a trusting and safe environment where problems can be raised without fear of blame, retribution, or being judged, with an emphasis of healing and problem solving.
• Facilitating getting the work done without coercion, assigning, or dictating the work.
• Facilitating discussion, decision making, and conflict resolution.
• Assisting with internal and external communication, improving transparency, and radiating information.
• Supporting and educating the Product Owner, especially with respect to grooming and maintaining the product backlog.
• Providing all support to the team using a servant leadership style whenever possible, and leading by example
• Experience in end-to-end solution and product architecture.
• Understanding of Java, Spring Framework and experience leading multiple teams.
All About You
• Relevant Master certification CSP, SAFe Practitioner etc. Past experience in managing software engineering teams developing applications in Java.
• Experience playing the Scrum Master role for at least 2-3 years for a software development team that was diligently applying Scrum principles, practices, and theory.
• Good skills and knowledge of leadership principle, facilitation, situational awareness, conflict resolution, continual improvement, empowerment, and increasing transparency.
• Knowledge of numerous well documented patterns and techniques for filling in the intentional gaps left in the Scrum approach (example: numerous Burndown techniques, numerous Retrospective formats, handling bugs, etc).
• Knowledge and/or experience with widely successful Agile techniques: User Stories, ATDD, TDD, Continuous Integration, Continuous Testing, Pairing, Automated Testing, Agile Games.
• Previous experience in managing team.
• Excellent communication and mentoring skills.
• Proven experience in software engineering delivery leadership at enterprise scale.
• Requires the skills to provide functional and directional guidance to staff and recommend policy or strategic direction changes to management.
• Ability to translate highly complex technical matters into easily digestible and actionable plans.
• Experience mentoring and developing resources in a high-performance culture.
